It's All About the Story

Do you have a young child? Bedtime can be one of the most wonderful times to spend with that young person because bedtime is story time. Not at your house? Oh!  I encourage you to read a story to your your young son or daughter every night. This is a magical time of bonding as the two of you cuddle together in the bed and share the wonder of words and stories. This night time ritual opens young minds to the language of stories, a language filled with delightful ideas and fanciful word combinations. A language that shows life has a beginning, a middle, and an end. A language that teaches us what it means to be people with a rich and interesting heritage. Yes, it IS all about the story. That's what makes a great TV show, a hit Broadway play, or a movie you watch over and over again.

Blog AssignmentThis week you will write a paragraph gives you the opportunity to tell a story that would be worth presenting to the entire world. You will respond to either topic #6 or #7 on page 219 of the textbook. You don't have to give away every detail of your story - that would take pages and pages - but tell me enough that I know you've got a real tale to unfold.

My Response: I plan one day to write a book that will shake the modern world. It would be an amazing thing if it were turned into a movie, but that can never happen if I don't write the book, right? So, here's the plot to my story. (Please don't steal this idea; I doubt you'd have the stamina to do the research correctly to do the plot justice.) The screen is dark. A middle aged man lies in a tomb, a small cave which has been carved out of the rock. Inside, he lies on a stone slab. Suddenly his eyes fly open and he takes a sharp intake of breath as the sound of his heart beating fills the empty chamber. This scene happens over and over again, to a great number of people of varying ages and genders.  Literally, hordes of the once-dead make their way through the ancient streets of Judea, their flesh restored to perfection. Clad only in their burial wrappings, also now restored to their pristine condition, the resurrected make their way to the homes of their families. Our first resurrectee enters his home, calling out his wife's name. His voice is rusty from lack of use. She turns from the recessed fire pit and when she sees him a look of complete joy suffuses her face. That joy is quickly replaced with shock and fear when she reaches out to touch his arm and our resurrected husband quickly speaks to comfort her consternation. He tells her that he has been physically dead, but that while he was no longer among the living, he was spiritually alive.

  2. Two hundred and nineteen years is how long it took for a black man to become president. Barack Obama became the first black president of the united states in 2008, what a historically event. I can remember the scene at school that day, all throughout the halls all you could hear is “Obama Obama Obama Obama” all the students jumping with glee. On the bus ride home I could hear cars honking shouting the same chant “Obama Obama Obama Obama” on mostly every television channel all you would see is the inauguration. Our forty fourth president Barack Obama, I never imagined that it would happen this soon. Even though I do not know him personally I was very proud to see him run for the presidency and win, also giving his background, being raised poor without a father showed me something. It showed me no matter what is your heritage or struggles you encounter there is always hope because it’s not only an achievement for him but it was also a mile stone for African Americans everywhere.

  3. A historical event that occured in our country is when New York city and other major landmarks were under terrorist attacks. September 11, 2001 is a day that no one will ever forget. The leader that led this crisis was Osama bin Laden, he had his team that included 19 men hijacked 4 commercial passenger jets and ordered them to fly into the landmarks. These terrorists were taught that killing American citizens is the right thing to do. So many lives were taken from this event, so many families are hurt to have lost their loved ones. A total of 2,977 people were killed from the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and outside of shanksville. On December 11th 2001, United States released the tape where Osama took full responsibility for the attacks. I remember I was in kindergarten when this happened, I was in class and all of a sudden my teacher started to cry. She turned on the TV to the news, and the whole class watched the footage they were showing. My heart goes out to the families and the lost ones, may they rest in peace. This historical event will never be forgotten.

  5. One important historical event would be the day this country was attacked. It happened on September 11, 2001. I was 9 years old in the fourth grade waiting in till it was the next day because it was my birthday. Now this day was a tragic day for this country because we lost many people and heroes. This all happened because of Osama Bin Laden and his team. His team hijacked 4 planes and ordered the captains to fly into the landmarks. The four landmarks that were involved was the Pentagon, a field in Pennsylvania and the worst of all the Twin Towers that went down. I remember when my principle went on the intercom and said that something tragic just happened to this country. I remember my teacher turning on the T.V and watching what was going on. I remember seeing on the T.V the Twins Towers going down, people trying to escape, objects falling to the ground, seeing the police, fire department and many other services trying to help and seeing the whole city covered in white ashes. When I heard about this I was surprise that something tragic like this could happen. So after that day this country began making our country even safer so that this kind of tragic event won’t ever repeat its self again. These’s people who lost their lives from this tragic event will never be forgotten and they will always be remembered as victims or heroes. I will always remember this day because it happened the day before my birthday.

  6. A historical event that stands out to me is the murder of Muammar Gadahffi. Its mindboggling how Africa is abundantly rich in natural resources, but yet so poor. The structural adjustment programs are imposed on African nations by the international monetary fund of Washington D.C, the world bank of Washington D.C and the U.S Aide. These 3 programs loan money and charge a interest rate on that money that they know the African nations can never pay back in essence re-enslaving the entire continent. Gadaffi and other head of states were trying to create Africa's 1st central bank. If that would have been successful it would have disrupted the global economic order. We must not forget that the U.S.A ,british, canadian, and european union currency are not back by any natural resources. If Africa had a currency they would bankrupt every economic system from America to China. All things considered that would have ended modern slavery and neo colonialism from the continent, that with in itself would have been a historical event.

  7. this story is about Martin Luther king Jr and his great change. Martin Luther's birthday was first observed as a national holiday in 1986, however, his life had become a fixed part of American mythology for years prior to this who's many African Americans who's rights he assisted in expansion, to many minorities that lives touched by his speeches and becoming. yet king came to become the leader of the Montgomery bus boycott in the 1950's. that long no violet protest which led to the supreme court ruling against bus segregation, brought king to the attention of the country as a whole. which also led the formation of the southern Christian leadership conference an alliance of black southern churches and ministers. this group put king as president and began looking for other civil right battles to fight.

  8. One of the most important historical events I will never forget is September 11, 2001. What an unforgetable tragedy; it was a Tuesday morning when islamic extremists brainwashed by Osama bin Laden high jacked 4 commercial passenger jets and deliberately flew them into major American landmarks. Most wondered why they would do such a thing. There intent was to indiscriminate mass murder, and to cause as much physical, emotional, metal, psychological, and financial harm on America as they possibly could. Until this day there motives are still, convolted. This event played a big role in the economic downturn. With that being said we can rest assured that an tragedy like that will take place again.

  9. The first man to ever land on the moon was a memorable historical event. Back in 1969 a gentleman named Neil Alden Armstrong was the first American to step foot on the Moon's surface. Armstrong was accompanied by a fellow named Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. also known as Buzz Aldrin, who was the second man to ever step foot on the Moon. Their pilot was Micheal Collins, who was responsible for bringing them back to Earth safely. The mission took place on July 20th 1969; Collins, Aldrin and Armstrong left the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island aboard Apollo 11. The two men spent about two to three hours on the lunar surface collecting specimens to bring back to Earth. This was an interesting Universal time, the majority of the world was either watching or listening. All three men were enlisted in the military, my grandfather was an Air Force Captain so this was a big deal for him and his friends. Growing up he would tell me stories and this was one that was repeated a few times to me.

  10. Many years ago, a historical event of a young girl who lived a tragedy hiding in camps during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World war ll. Anne Frank was a Jewish victim of the Holocaust. She was well known because of her daily life that she ended up writing in her dairy. Her horrible experiences were written down; imagine reading her life and thinking “this sounds like a movie”? Not! This was a true story of her living in the concentration camps. The concentration camps where worse than the jails now these days. She unfortunately, she did not survive the camp and died of a disease. Not many Jewish-es survive; the ones that did ended up telling their stories in real life and not a book.

  11. There has been a lot of important historical events, but the one that i can remember is September 11, 2001. I was sitting in my art class and my teacher stopped teaching and put on the news. There we watched the planes fly right into the twin towers. It was so devastating to see all the people trapped in the towers. Then all of a sudden they both collapsed, and all the smoke filled the streets of New York. I had no idea what was going on. Finally, when i got home my mom explained everything to me. Never will i forget the day of September 11, 2001.

  12. The historical event that stands out to me is when the United States of American elected the first black president, Barak Obama, in 2008. This was an important election for many Americans, especially in the black communities. There were people voting for the first time. To be exact, this was my second time to ever vote. I remember riding by some of the early voting cites and seeing the protracted lines. On the day I went to vote I stayed in line nearly three hours long. The election of a black president was talked about for months and still is to this day. There were people selling memorabilia on every corner. Wow! History was made.

  13. Everyone was in shock and awe on the morning of September 11, 2001. Several cowardly Arabic men took over four commercial airliners with the intent of killing as many innocent people as possible in New York City, Washington D.C and in Pennsylvania. On this day, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost and neither the terrorists or Americans came out as winners. Although, many heroes were identified that day and many more heroes perished, the suffering for America did not end that day. This day still affects America in many different ways. Prior to September 11, 2001, the American economy was booming. The federal government had a huge surplus of cash. Bill Clinton had just finished his term as president months before and the new president was George W. Bush. In the week following the terrorist attack, the economy tanked. The stock market crashed and the United States government would begin spending money at an unprecedented rate. Fear and panic spread through America like wildfire. Today, it seems like America has recovered, however, September 11th still affects America greatly. The economy has still not recovered from that horrible day in American history. Because of the fear this event caused, we went to war with Iraq under false pretenses, as our government falsely believed Iraq had nuclear weapons. This war cost America thousands of lives and billions of dollars unnecessarily. We will pay interest on this debt for decades and the lives can never be recovered. Today, the U.S government still spends hundreds of billions of dollars each year to keep Americans safe. Billions are spent on extra military intervention in other countries, extra security at airports and extra security at all major events throughout the country. Billions more are now spent flooding the economy with dollars to support the American people who cannot get jobs, who have given up trying or who are just too lazy to work anymore. There is no end in sight to all this excess spending and if no change is made, America is going to drown in its own debt. It was September 11, 2001 that began this downward spiral and still continues to affect Americans today.

  14. Historically, the 1930’s was a devastating time for all of Germany. Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933. He believed that he could provide a stronger government that would bring strength back to his country. He created propaganda by blaming all Germany’s problems on Communists and Jews. He threw innocent people into concentration camps. World War II began when the world could no longer watch what was happening to Germany. This era was known as the Holocaust and Hitler is considered as one of the most evil people in the 1930’s. Who knew someone could be so cruel to his own people?

  15. Among many of the dates that passed, November 1, 1955 is the start of one of the most memorable historic events in united states history. The Vietnam war, The war lasted from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975. The U.S. government viewed American involvement in the war as a way to prevent a communist takeover of South Vietnam. The untied states ended military involvement as a result of case chruch amendment passed by the us congress in 1973. Many people argue that the vietnam war is the longest lasting war in united states history. But no doubt the war claimed the most U.S. citizens, a devestating 58,220 U.S. service members. In my opinion this is a very important and devestating historic event that impacts people of many ages.
